Volunteer
YOU are important!
Volunteers are an essential part of not only the state’s fire service, but also of the Nebraska Firefighters Museum! On-the-job-trained volunteers play a critical role in educating the public and enhancing the public’s experience at the Nebraska Firefighters Museum & Education Center.
In this very relaxed environment, volunteers interact with visitors from across the state, across the nation, & occasionally even from around the world regarding the equipment & apparatus on display in the Gallery! Semi-scripted tours make it simple for everyone to engage with the displays & pleasant giftshop customer service provides a fun way to connect with visitors of all ages.
Qualifications & Experience
Volunteers must be “people people” who enjoy communicating with children, adults & senior citizens. Though NOT necessary, fire service experience, EMS experience &/or retail experience are great qualities to bring with you.
Due to the essential need for safety and integrity, a background check may be completed prior to the approval of any application submitted.
Positions & Hours Available
Volunteers may be involved with a variety of positions such as: exhibit gallery security, involvement with special community events, fire safety education, minor maintenance assistance, facility artwork & design, Fire Hazard House rooms fire prevention education, administrative assistance, etc.
An unlimited number of flexibly scheduled positions are available during our business hours & during scheduled special events, such as birthday parties, conferences, school field trips, & Museum programs. So, volunteers may sign up for as little as a just a couple hours a month up to as many as a few hours a day!
There’s always a place for YOU fit at the Nebraska Firefighters Museum & Education Center – so, go ahead…

I would like to visit with you regarding a volunteer opportunity at the Museum. I am looking to complete my Service Learning Project for the College of Education. You should have seen a note from Gerry Stirtz regarding this project. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and for the opportunity to serve.
